What's more exciting? The chance to win five million British pounds? Or the new characters and weapons in this 1985 Promotional game from Mobil...

The concept of the game is simple: Buy gas/petrol (although no purchase is necessary) and get a Cluedo game themed game piece. Match the coordinating Suspect, Weapon and Room playing pieces and win the prize shown!

Prizes include an Aston Martin (or 50,000 GBP), a holiday for four to New York on the QE2 and Concorde, a Panther Kallista 2.8i, a Ford Escort Cabriolet 1.6 or an assortment of cash prizes.

In order for this game's concept to work, there needed to be an equal number of suspect and weapons as there are rooms. Thus, the stylish Lady Oakwood, the dashing Sir Peach and stern Dr Prussian were born!

In addition to the usual weapons, we also now see the blunderbuss and poison making their appearances the year before they also show up on the UK's Super Cluedo Challenge game. And also the hat pin which won't appear again save for the DVD game twenty years later which has a similar hair pin.

The artwork of this game is great. The cover features a suitably mysterious gloved hand stealing away the key to the Aston Martin prize. Presumably to make his get-away! The board's tiled layout has been altered slightly, but since it's not playable, it doesn't really matter. The new suspects are fun and Lady Oakwood bears a striking resemblance to the 1992 US Mrs. Peacock. The usual suspects have been redrawn offering a more youthful looking Plum and Green (no more white hair). The new and the old suspects and weapons all seem to blend well together and had one never played Cluedo before, one might never know the secrets of this game.
