Of course, ANY new Clue game on the market bring fans joy, but they can't help but be a bit
disappointed in this version. Is Winning Moves/Hasbro trying to capitalize on the Nostalgia
Games success? At least with the Nostalgia version, the gamewas spruced up with a
wooden box and was given a retro feel. What are the motives for this game? It offers nothing new except a "clue memories booklet". Where
is the benefit of this version that the consumer cannot find elsewhere? If the
consumer wants an original version of the game, there are plenty of them on
eBay and other markets. At least there, you get authenticity. Too bad Winning
Moves could not come up with an original idea like their Tin Box version or
more special editions. Surely there are plenty of other mystery-esque figures
to be made into clue games - Sherlock Holmes for instance.
The Clue Memories Booklet is nice, but seems to have been hastily put together. It tells of the era in which Clue was born, the history of Clue, the rules, and playing tips. One spread, "Clue Through the Years" leaves out many editions, but even only considering the bare minimum standard editions, they leave out the 1992 version! As for the tips, the booklet suggests that if opponents are suggesting a room on each turn, you should assume that is the murder location! What a horrible tip! The game is based on elimination, and this could cause the player to fall for a classic red-herring of suggesting one's own card! This booklet was written by Winning Moves president Phil Orbanes. One would think he would do his homework first...
Overall, this game is very disappointing.
