The suspects' names

Post by Jonathan Green »

How would you name the characters from Clue?

I'm a fan of the puzzle series and 2002 names of the characters.

Miss Scarlett - Josphine, nicknamed "Josie"

Col. Mustard - Micheal, nicknamed "Mike"

Mrs. White - Blanche, nicknamed "Whitey"

Mr. Green - Giovanni
Giovanni is Italian for John.

Mrs. Peacock (Nee Gobelin) - Elizabeth

Prof. Plum - Peter

Dr. Orchid - Madeline

Mr. Boddy - John, middle name Thomas

You all probably wondering why Mr. Boddy's middle name is Thomas...
Well...

(I was a fan of Thomas when I was a little kid, so I thought it would be funny.)

I've also been a fan 2002/Puzzle Series Names

Vivienne Scarlet
Michael/Mike Mustard
Blanche White
Jonathan for Reverend, Thallo for Mobster
Patricia for Widow/Socialite, Elizabeth for Ornithologist
Peter Plum

I've also liked the Master Detective and FX names (MD for Peach)

Georgia Peach (When did Emily ever become her name? I've only found it in fanfiction.)
Alphonse Brunette
Rhoda Rose
Alfred Gray (which can apply to both Lord and Sgt. if you do a father/son with the same first name)
Philippe Azure
Jane Meadow-Brook
Rusty Naylor
Su Sian Lavender

When I write my mysteries, I always give the suspects unusual first names but my victim's normal, common names (unless the victim is a relative of a suspect) - The middle of the suspects are their original first names (unless it's a new character)

Miss Elvira Vivienne Scarlet
Colonel Caradoc Michael Mustard
Mrs. Magdala Blanche White -> Maggie to the Younger Suspects
Reverend Septimus Johnathan Green
Mrs. Honoria Elizabeth Peacock nee Grantham (Yes, it is a reference to Downton)
Professor Amyas Peter Plum

Miss Adelaide Emily Peach
M. Etienne Alphonse Brunette *
Mme. Viveca Rose *
Detective Inspector Aloysius Marshal Grey
Mrs. Ariadne Jane Meadow-Brook nee Beaumont
Doctor Ignatius David Black
Lady Ophelia Susan Lavender nee Boddy

Mr. Godric Graham Stone
Ms. Elspeth Diana Gold
Sir Caspian Charles Ocean

* Not their real name

Dorothy Rose Boddy a.k.a. Madame Rose
John Boddy's sister. Madame Rose is a pen-name, since I imagine her as a author/novelist.

Monsieur Alphonse Brunette

Inspector Gordon Grey

Miss Georgia Emily Peach

Lord Alfred Grey

Lady Su Sian Lavender, nee Wong

Prince Philippe Azure

Mrs. Jane Meadow-Brook, nee McWhooter

Russel "Rusty" Naylor

Mme. Rose an Author... that's an interesting idea - in my stories, she is a fashion designer

I came up with the idea because I thought to myself "Why would a woman, who's brother is one of the most wealthiest man in England be a fortune teller?" Then I came up with the idea of making her a author who's pen-name is "Madame Rose".

Rose's original name was Rhoda Boddy, but I changed to Dorothy after Dorothy Williams from "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries".

In fact, I've got a old drawing of Rose as a Medium.

Now Dorothy is going to have something like the original Madame Rose.

In her bio (which I'll be posting today), Dorothy has dreams about something that would happen in the future. Her latest dream was about her brother, John Boddy, being murdered by a shadowy figure on the night of his 30th birthday. Dorothy vowed to protect her brother, and she might have killed him by accident.

Her full bio will be posted here: "Clue: Murder at Tudor Mansion - Case File" viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13193&p=145895#p145895

I'm with the OP, although in the puzzle series, Mr. Boddy is replaced with one Dr. David Black and Miss Scarlett's first name is Vivienne.

I like to imagine the puzzle series some day being a TV series; in which the case is investigated and solved in the end, by one Detective Jane Orchid.

Although I don't usually think too much on what the suspects first names are, there are a couple of characters who I've been trying to attach first names too, so I can differentiate them from other characters. For instance, I like to use Thallo for Mr Green, who in my head canon is the shady businessman/mobster brother of Reverend Green (Thallo Green sounds enough like Pthalo Green, from pthalocyanine, which gives him his on colour connected name). I also go with Georgia as Miss Peach's first name.

I like the suspects forenames to have some connection to the colour.

Blanche White is the winner here.

I suggest
Cynthia Scarlet (sin as in cardinal sin and cardinal red)

Herbert or Basil Green (though I like Thallo) for Mr Green . Patrick for the reverend!

Daphne Meadow-Brook (Daphnea are water creatures and she looks like a Daphne to me)

Frank Mustard

Hugh Black

Iris Peacock

Ashleigh Grey

Monsieur Martin Brunette

Rusty Tanner

Dr Jessamine Orchid

Miss Candy Peach

Mainly because of the Pine Marten (Martin sounds the same) which has brown fur.

I'm guessing the others names are fairly straightforward.

Candy of course could be Pink (& a little girl)

Miss Scarlett - Josphine, nicknamed "Josie"

Jonathan is his English name, Giovanni is his real name.
Giovanni is Italian for John, most people call him by his English name.

Mrs. Peacock (Nee Gobelin) - Elizabeth

Prof. Plum - Peter

Dr. Orchid - Madeline

Mr. Boddy - John, middle name Thomas

You all probably wondering why Mr. Boddy's middle name is Thomas...
Well...
I recently had to name Orchid and I chose Madeline as her first name too. Although I use Vivienne for Scarlet, but the rest are the same.

It’s a couple’s thing between Boddy and White. I see them married to each other.
If see was a maid., Rusty would call her that.

I think it's a reference to the Australian series
