I'm just curious to what you people have to say when it comes to the greatest detective in literature

Nick Charles! I love him!!!! The Thin Man is one of my favorite movies, and if I become a director, I want to remake it, because no one has heard of it. I even have the entire cast planned.
Nick Charles...Johnny Depp

Dorothy Wynant...Hilary Duff
Mimi Jorgenson...Meryl Streep
Lt. Guild...Giovannit Ribisi
McCouly...John C. Reilly

Personally, I read the book and saw all the movies, and I must say I enjoyed the films more. The way Nick and Nora address each other in the book, it seems like they are just talking to remind the other that they are alive. The witty dialogue was missing in the book. And the ending was much better in the film. Nick throws a big party and invites all the suspects. In the book, he is just at one of the suspects homes (with only two other people there, his wife isn't even there!). Just my opinion.
Re: The Greatest Detective of them All
Since the question is about the "Greatest Detective of them All", I had to go with Sherlock Holmes. After all, he came before the others listed, so he would definitely be the trend-setter of the bunch.
If it was a question of "Favorite Detective of them All" my answer these days would be different.

By the way, at the present there's a tie between Hercule Poirot and Sherlock Holmes with three votes each for "The Greatest Detective of them All".
Anybody who hasn't voted yet want to try and break the tie?

Re: The Greatest Detective of them All
I’d like to vote for Miss Marple or Jessica Fletcher
Re: The Greatest Detective of them All
Well, since I didn't create the poll way back when, not much I can do about that.
Besides, by including them, how would you define "greatest detective"?
Are you talking the cleverest / smartest, or more along the lines of more enjoyable reading (or for watching in movies and on TV, even though the original post said "the greatest detective in literature")?
