Not one to call victory that early: we're talking about DNA provided by single descendants 4 generations away (and both women, so no Y chromosome certainty), and how clean the DNA samples are after 120 years... it's all too convenient, AND blood AND kidney cell AND sperm AND enough to pull DNA from, and they only speak of 100% matches, which makes me suspicious (even in a matching paternity test it's never 100%) If there was any reference to the shawl existing in the police records it might give us a bit of certainty but at the moment I have little faith in it not being fabricated.
Of course now of all times I can't find my Donald Rumbelow-book.

I found my Donald Rumbelow book!
Catherine Eddowes is the 4th of the canonical 5 victims and was found murdered on 30 Sep 1888. This murder happened not long, maybe a few hours after Elizabeth Stride was found. Stride was still warm, and it is assumed that the killer got interrupted and carried on with someone else.
Eddowes was indeed not a rich woman and had all her worldly goods on her when she died. She wore a dress with Michaelmas daisies and golden lilies - the Michaelmas being the same pattern on this alluded crime scene scarf. Part of the apron around her neck had been cut away and was found discarded in a passageway between flats. The bloodstains looked as if someone had smeared off a knife on it. The patrolling constable noticed writing on the wall at the same time: in chalk, somebody had written "the juwes are not the men that will be blamed for nothing". For fear of riots, these words were wiped off before anyone had photographed them.
I could fit in the scarf if it was cut off from the dress, or mistaken for a dress by the cops on duty (though that's not likely). Is it part of the cut apron?
Wikipedia makes the interesting note that Kosminski was just hand-picked by an author in 1987 from a list of people in the asylum: it's possible that there was another Kosminski, renamed David Cohen by people from the asylum because Kosminsi is too difficult a name to remember. Said Cohen had run mad with syphilis and was uncontrolled: he has also been identified by one author as Leather Apron.
I think it's a hoax, but will cheer if it's true.
Edit: I'm now 99% sure it's hogwash:
it's incredibly hard to get mtDNA from male reproductive stains, let alone from a sample that's over 120 years old
-that mtDNA would've had to be passed on fully to descendants 4 generations away
- earlier research on the same scarf found the same blood and male stains but couldn't extract DNA from it
- Eddowes was of the oldest profession and it would be likely that the male stains are from somebody who is not JdR
-nor is there any evidence that JdR assaulted his victims sexually
-Eddowes didn't even have a scarf, according to police files
-research published in Daily Mail before peer review is a big red flag
-researcher is not a "well-known authority", only has one publication in his name

Been hinking of writing a guide to solving logic problems for years (I really can't stand watching a computer playthrough of a game where people have trouble with sliders) and am doing a walkthrough of the red cards of Greenrock Theatre for it.Black wrote:The red cases are really difficult. As long as I can answer the questions on the cards I'm happy.BBP wrote:I'm really enjoying that Greenrock Theatre Murders game.
Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've posted here, hasn't it? Anyways, for any of you who've played Animal Crossing New Leaf, I just finished a murder mystery dream village. It's not clue related, but I thought you guys'd enjoy it nevertheless. So if you're interested, here's the dream address!
