Hey, checking out those Japanese cards I see they use the English names in Katakana spelling for the weapons in that classic Japanese-style English that's so much fun to decipher - the lead pipe is something no pa i pu, pistol is pi-su-ta-ru, rope is rou-pu, spanner is su-pa-na.

Candlestick is what I'm interested in. I tried Candlestick and Candlelarbra but nothing matches

The actual name of the game is "Crew Japan Jiro Akagawa's reasoning game Mikeneko Holmes no Sumurinkan" (1991 / TOMY)
Apparently the game is based of a TV show which itself based off a series of humorous mystery books by Jirō Akagawa
And the reason why there's a cat, it's because Mikeneko means Calico cat

I used the Google Translate app to translate the cards:

The Suspects:
Mari Akabane (Red)
Mayo Shinko (Mustard?)
Yataro Shiraishi (White Rock)
Naomi Midorikawa (Green)
Torahiko Aoki (Blue/Flying Tiger?)
Shiranko Edo (Purple)

The Weapons:
Candlestick
Dagger
Lead Pipe
Pistol
Rope
Spanner

The Rooms:
Entrance Hall
Tatami Room (Japanese Style Room)
Dining Room
Kitchen
Living Room
Greenhouse
Bathroom
Bedroom
Study

Do like the hands holding the weapons, I don’t like they call it the “drawing room” when it looks more like a spare room like from Parker Brothers Mystery Game. I’ve always seen it on the Japanese Cluedo site glad you shared with us.

Figured I would just dump this in here instead of giving it its own thread: from eBay, a Russian Cluedo for only 2-5 players. Dr. Orchid has been removed from the game, along with the Lead Pipe. The board shown on the back of the box features the Bathroom layout — notably, Dr. Orchid’s start space has been completely wiped from the board, leaving a weird blank hallway space by the Ballroom. The dice appear to be wooden with painted features, including the magnifying glasses for the Clue Cards. The weapons are represented by cardboard tokens, as are the suspects’ standees.

Assuming this is a game to the scale of the current smaller runs by Hasbro (the current standard edition, as well as both the Houzz and Alexa editions, are all much smaller than their predecessors), I can’t understand why the box appears to be SO thick!

I’m watching this listing on eBay, and may very well end up buying it out of sheer curiosity, if nobody here beats me to it.
"But look what happened to the cook!"

strange, why not make the empty space look like the other empty non-start start spaces?

Also that space themed one looks really cool!
