Clue: 13 Dead End Drive

Post by cacums »

I know this idea has been tossed about with others, but it hasn't yet evolved into an actual '13 Dead End Drive' based Clue game. Here are some of the plans I've come up with...

SUSPECTS

Miss Scarlet
Colonel Mustard
Mrs. White
Mr. Green
Mrs. Peacock
Professor Plum
Madame Rose
Miss Peach
Mr. Slate-Grey
Doctor Olive
Lady Meadow
Mrs. Lilac
Captain Brown

WEAPONS

Knife
Candlestick
Revolver
Rope
Lead Pipe
Wrench
Poison
Axe
Crossbow
Paperweight
Bag
Dry Ice
Lighter

ROOMS

Hall
Lounge
Dining Room
Kitchen
Ballroom
Conservatory
Billiard Room
Library
Study
Trophy Room
Cellar
Pantry
Elevator

TRAPS

Hall--------------- Stairs
Lounge----------- Fireplace
Dining Room----- China Cabinet
Kitchen----------- Pot Rack
Ballroom--------- Chandelier
Conservatory---- Trap Door
Billiard Room---- Billiard Lights
Library------------ Bookcase
Study------------- Falling Safe
Trophy Room---- Marble Statuette

----------
This will not interfere with Lives, Deaths, Alibis.... this is just a time passer while ideas develope for both

Better yet, for the Elevator, "Crush" - the character winds up beneath the elevator as it comes down...

13 of each category... nice...
"Are you trying to make me look stupid in front of the other guests?"
"You don't need any help from me, sir."
"That's right!"

Another fun idea is an elevatorless elevator-- a nice fall to one's death.

I like both ideas.... I'm might go with the fall to death... but crush sounds more apt to die... Falling might just break a leg or arm...

Should I keep Lady Oakwood or change her to Captain Brown?

Here's a prototype of the general layout of the board-

Starting at the one on the bottom and going clockwise-

Hall, Lounge, Dining Room, Kitchen, Pantry, Cellar, Ballroom, Elevator, Conservatory, Billiard Room, Library, and Study

The Trophy Room is in the Middle

Lady Oakwood is fine and Capt. Brown is fine. Personally, I'd prefer to have Captain Brown, just so it's not so overwhelmed with women. I only have a problem with Turkis. Unlike the other names, it doesn't immediately conjure up a colour.

Turkis is German for Turqoise and I thought that it might work... the characters are apt to change...

She was originally Mrs. Cyan but I didn't quite like how it rolled off my tongue so I went with Frau Turkis...

While I like the general idea of the mansion, it's really haphazard to look at; no distinguishing look between the rooms.

I guess I didn't mention, but this isn't the final design it's like the pencil sketchings on the early stages of a painting....

I plan for it to be in ful color, shadow, detail, and possibly the hardest I've worked on a clue project...

Here's a little preview of what I worked on before Halloween

Passage Trapdoor and Fireplace are based on the actual 13 Dead End Drive Board Game

This seems like a good idea to revive.

Has anyone seen this Winning Moves reissue?

http://winning-moves.com/product/13deadenddrive.asp

I’m wondering if it could just be adapted to regular clue play — with traps!

Wouldn’t it be as simple as deducing which of the 12 heirs killed Mr. Boddy with which of 5 traps? So each of the playing characters would move to the trap with dice rolls and then gather clues. It would take about as long with 17 items and 2 solutions, vs. 21 items and 3 solutions? Add the trap cards for added intrigue, maybe not to kill the players, but send them back to the starting space? The Detective puts a time limit on the game, and the players must race to the exit in order to accuse the killer?

And of course Clue cards and pawns could be used. But an old set of cards would be needed to paste the traps over the weapons.
