Re: CLUE RETROSPECTIVE - 2000s games
I never cared much for the character designs, though they seem pretty good in comparison to what came after. The storyline and backstories were decent enough, quite detailed.
Some odd points about the 2002 game I noticed:
Why for whatever reason did they depict the 50th Anniversary rope design on the card (and not on the token?)
Also, that glaring typo on the Billiard Room card, labeled as Billard Room was hard to unsee.

Re: CLUE RETROSPECTIVE - 2000s games
Perhaps it’s because I “came of age” during this time, but this was my and still is my absolute FAVOURITE design. Of course there are some gripes with each of the games, but specifically the artwork for FX and DVD is probably the best we’ll ever see. Mysteries ALMOST ruined it with the cartoony yuck. I’m still upset they didn’t continue the series, especially since we never got decent artwork for Miss Peach... I agree that the original relaunch in 2002 was probably rushed somewhat: including the weapon artwork and room artwork from previous editions didn't really flow that well. The DVD was, at the time, one of the best games on the market, though!
I love the intricacies of the storylines, how they all fit together and told a cogent story with consistent stories and characters. Again, Mysteries was the weakest here as it was apparently aimed at children. I really wish they had continued with a Master Detective remake and introduced artwork for Madame Rose.
I would also say this era of Cluedo was the most innovative it had had in awhile without losing the essence of what Clue actually is. The nonsense that followed (Discover the Secrets) really highlighted how excellent this era had been at being both creative without going overboard.
I also personally would add the ClueExpress, CluedoParty, and Clue Suspects to this list of games, btw way, since they all feature similar art. Only CluedoParty can be said to actually progress the storyline (we don't know when it's set, probably before Mysteries, but it's yet another murder victim... Vincent Matin)

That looks fun!
I don't care much for the 2000s character designs I've seen. I only have the DVD game of the noughties games left, both portable games I had got a new home.

As much I love this series, the 2002 board is bland. I prefer the rooms in the DVD game.
Re: CLUE RETROSPECTIVE - 2000s games
Oh YES! I feel like the artwork in the 2002 version was not quite finished... the weapons and the rooms seem to not fully be in the style of the suspect art. It wasn't until FX was released that we really got an idea of how the art SHOULD be depicted, and then of course the epic cherry on the top that was the DVD game.Jonathan Green wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 10:13 am As much I love this series, the 2002 board is bland. There's this listing on ebay for Cluedo Party
https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-CLUEDO-PA ... SwkXFb9u7S
From what it looks like, there seems to be a card with Lord Gray done in the style of the rest of the suspects from the DVD game.
If someone would be willing to "invest", we could look into this further...

Yes yes! I bought this several years ago! Unfortunately it only has two mysteries but the Lord Gray artwork made it worthwhile. I just don’t understand why they never gave Miss Peach some dignity!
If you love the 2002 era Clue, this is a MUST!

I been thinking. Was Lord Grey and Miss Peach were originally going to be in Clue DVDSir Shamrock wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 12:52 pm There's this listing on ebay for Cluedo Party

By all means if you have, show it off! I'm sure we would all love to see it
Re: CLUE RETROSPECTIVE - 2000s games
Dun dun DUN! Here you go!
I don't think Miss Peach or Lord Gray were ever intended for the DVD game - the only thing that points in the opposite direction is Miss Peach's artwork on the mock-up of the box, but that could just be random as it seems like the designers didn't know much about what the game was.

Now that's a nice Lord Gray! Thanks so much
Re: CLUE RETROSPECTIVE - 2000s games
You're very welcome! Yes, I was suprised that they included him as a suspect with the "exclusive" artwork, consdiering that they just used stock art of the rest of the characters (even opting for Lady Lavender instead of Miss Peach, presumably so they could use her arwork from ClueDVD)...
