|Cluedo Mystery Puzzle: The Colour of Murder - 1994|
While the previous Cluedo puzzles appeared a year prior to the US editions, this puzzle, with its remarkably different styling comes a year after that of the US. Again, this edition has more pieces (750 compared to 500), but the box artwork is completely different with a different group of people representing the six suspects. The box descriptions have also changed slightly. One possible explaination for the change in the box cover could be that it was around this timeframe that some Cluedo edition room cards began to use the image of the window of the room as seen from the outside of the house. This puzzle may simply attempt to remain consistent with that styling. While it does make for, perhaps, a better and more mysterious appearance, the suspects themselves, looking decidedly British, seem too one-dimensional showing no emotion or personality. Furthermore, the Miss Scarlet character looks entirely too young given her motive in the mystery is the need to pay for cosmetic surgery to retain her beauty!
The Juicy Plot:
Dr Black's latest passion is the Derbyshire Rainbow, a colourful meteorological event he wants to share with his six best friends. Dr Black's other passion is money lending at exorbitant rates, something he has also shared with his six friends. Since no one can pay off the debts on the due date, it's no surprise when Black is killed by a croquet mallet during the rainbow's rare appearance.
|The Famous Suspects:
Professor Plum: was a health nut. did he take a crack at Black?
Colonel Mustaard: used his money to finance a foreign coup. Did he 'overthrow' Dr Black too?
Mrs Peacock: needed funds to start a business. Did Black pay the price in the end?
Mrs White: needed a loan because of a car problem. Is that why Dr Black had an accident?
Reverend Green: was only tempted by gambling or did he have a more wicked vice?
Miss Scarlet: needed a little cosmetic surgery to 'update' her beauty. Can looks really kill?
