Clue/do DVD Game Without the DVD

Post by Elrond » Wed Mar 06, 2019 8:23 pm

I'm just putting the finishing touches on instructions to make the Clue/do DVD Game playable even without access to the DVD. It could be used in conjunction with the individual video files or used without messing with the videos at all.

I'll definitely post them here once I'm finished, but I was wondering if there might be one or two people interested in reviewing the work to make sure it 1) makes sense and 2) doesn't have errors that would ruin one of the cases. In order to do this, you need access to the DVD, so only volunteer if you're able to compare what I have with the original cases. PM me or respond here if you're interested in helping out with this!

This project is continuing very well, with BBP's great assistance!

There are some funny differences between the US and UK versions of this game. The UK version was published first, so presumably the changes were made for the US version...

---In the US version, the Telescope (UK) has been changed to the Spyglass
---In the US version, the Wallet (UK) has been changed to the Billfold

In the Dutch version, apparently the translation has been rendered to have all of the stories placed in the Netherlands! Including a reference changing Princess Elizabeth (Queen of the UK) to Princess Juliana (Queen of the Netherlands).

Does anyone have access to other language versions? Was that trend continued in other countries/translations?

I've been wondering why Hasbro changed Telescope and Wallet to Spyglass and Billfold.
As someone who lives in the states, we know about wallets and telescopes.
Who even calls a wallet a 'billfold'?

At one time, “billfold” was far more common than “Wallet” in the US, especially in some regions. I called it that growing up. Both are equally in use today.

Spyglass seems like a marketing choice to be more “sinister” than a telescope. The reality is, it’s not a telescope but a telescoping monocular. A telescope in the US connotes a much larger device, one that sits on a pedestal, or is mounted in an observatory, with a refracting mirror and prism viewfinder. Spyglass is the thing a pirate uses to survey their target clandestinely as they stalk them from afar. But I can’t say I ever called it that. I probably grew up calling it a telescope, but I think Pirates of the Caribbean calls it a spyglass and that’s a pretty popular movie predating the game.

So I look up Princess Juliana, and she was born in 1909. John Boddy would have 13 and Sir Hugh was still alive.

They're celebrating her 17th birthday. Because of that the case takes place on April 30th in unusually rainy conditions.

I got an idea!
What if one of us make several playlists of each different case.
Ex. The Monte Carlo Affair
Their will be one playlist with Inspector Brown and one with Ashe.
The solution could be private and only seen with a link.

Any thoughts?

Great idea! The videos would need to be clipped which is why I didn’t do that. I don’t have a program that quickly does that.

Try downloading a editing software like Sony Vegas
