Clue: Super Sleuth in 1972 Style

Post by Poirotfrmda818 » Sun Apr 19, 2009 6:03 pm

Yet again I started another new project.

This time it will be Super Sleuth but in the style of the 72 game, with a few changes.

There will be 10 suspects, 8 weapons, and 12 Rooms like in Master Detective.

Here is the first room tile:

That is gorgeous!

Now the question is, do you think you can find other suspect photographs that have a similar feel as the 1972 suspects?

I was thinking of just using the VCR game suspects. I like them more than the 72 suspects, and they will finally be in a Clue board game.

I just love the VCR suspects. They're go perfect together. There is not one I don't like.

despite not being a fan of the '72 edition or the VCR suspects, i can't deny that, from what i've seen, this has the potential to be a very classy edition

I see the 72 edition as classy, so I hope this will reflect that.

And here are just some sample suspect cards to show what I have in mind:

I tried to stay as close as possible to the original cards.

Oh wow. Those look very stylish!

If you don't mind, I do have a little caveat about the colouring behind the text on the suspect cards. Hopefully you'll understand what I mean here. Frankly, I'm getting a headache from how raw and vivid the colours look. It's the contrast.

My suggestion is to adjust the colouring just slightly. Make it more subdued. Rather than vivid stop-sign red for Scarlet, make it more of tomato. Don't give Mustard that lemon yellow either. A dull sort of mustard-tawny tone would be more suitable (kind of like on Walter Covell's turtleneck).

It will give off the 1970's game vibe better with its unflashy pallete and the text will be easier to read (especially Scarlet's) :)

I see what you mean. Especially on the Scarlet card. It really doesn't look blurry in reality. And the text is much easier to read. The colors may be just too bright. These were just examples of what I was going for. I'll work on it now.

I can't really tell Mustard's change, but then he wasn't as bad as Scarlet's card.

Anyway, the new Scarlet card is much better than the first. The text is not so blurry.

Mustard wasn't a huge change. It's just a tad bit darker.

Now I'm starting to think of the weapons. As much as I would like to use the cards form the 72 game, I doubt I'll find another two weapon with the same background in the exact same way, so I started to look for a somewhat similar style for the weapons. Here are 3 that I think show what I'm going for.
